With the upcoming Gangaur festival, the idol making work has gained speed in the city. Clay and wooden idols of Isar-Parvti are being painted with vibrant colours. Gangaur festival is celebrated by both married and unmarried females with full devotion. A procession carrying these idols moves around some main parts of the city. The festival goes on for three days and women sing bhajans in praise of these deities before the procession. People have started buying these idols for their daily poojas at home as well.

The word Gangaur is actually a combination of two words…’Gan’ is another name for Lord Shiva and “Gaur” is Devi Parvati. The festival is celebrated throughout Rajasthan on the sixteenth day after Holi marking harvest, spring and marital fidelity. The married women pray for a happy married life whereas the unmarried pray so as to be blessed with a good husband.

People who have migrated to the other parts of the country from Rajasthan also celebrate this festival with same devotion.
