Grounded! IndiGo Meltdown Ruins Wedding Celebrations

Newly-weds and Singapore diplomat forced to attend weddings virtually after flights are cancelled

Dec 6, 2025 – Passengers have been the worst hit in the widespread chaos created by cancellations of hundreds of flights daily by IndiGo over the last few days. Their trauma has been because of the uncertainty – when and whether the flight will take off – endless wait in queues at vacant counters, misplaced baggage and no one to provide any update. Anger, frustrations and despair were writ large on the faces of the stranded passengers.

The government assures that accountability will be fixed but that will not lessen the angst and disappointments of those who missed flights to attend important meetings or weddings.

One such an example of bitter disappointment is that of newly married couple — Megha Kshirsagar and Sangam Das — who could not attend their own wedding reception because their IndiGo flight was cancelled. Megha and Sangam, who were married in Bhubaneswar on November 23, were supposed to reach Hubballi in Karnataka for their reception scheduled on December 2. Relatives arrived, the venue was decorated, but the bride and groom remained stuck in Bhubaneswar owing to cancelled flights.

Despite this, the reception began at the planned time. The bride’s parents sat on the stage and observed the traditional customs, while Megha and Sangam joined the event through a video call. Their smiling faces, teary eyes and emotional voices flashed on the big screen while they took part virtually and completed every ritual online.

Another story is that of Singapore High Commissioner Simon Wong who was supposed to travel to Jharkhand’s Deoghar to attend the wedding of a High Commission staffer. However, he could not do so after his IndiGo flight from New Delhi got cancelled.

Wong attended the wedding online and later shared visuals of himself attending the celebrations virtually, dressed in traditional Indian attire.

“I joined the tens of thousands of passengers stranded by #Indigo. My flight to #Deoghar has been cancelled. My sincere apologies to my young staff waiting for me to attend his #shaadi. Lost for words,” Wong wrote on the official Singapore High Commission handle.
