Carrying the beautifully decorated idols of Gauri, women devotees walked through the old city areas in a procession that marked the festival of Gangaur today which also begins the three day long Mewar Festival.

Organized by the Tourism Department, the vibrant procession ended at Gangaur Ghat where the idols were kept near the lake for further customs.

A large number of people divided in several groups, belonging to particular communities reached Gangaur ghat with the Idols of Gauri or Parvati, wife of Lord Shiva.

Hundreds of Gangaur idols made the view of Lake Pichola picturesque with an added beauty of Gangaur Boat. A cultural program was also held at Lake Pichola which included local traditional dances by prominent artists. The program ended with fireworks.

Tomorrow on the second day of the festival, a boat race will be held at Fateh Sagar Lake by NCC cadets at 11am and cultural program at Gangaur Ghat in the evening.
