The first out of four days is celebrated in honour of Lord Indra for providing adequate rains for the harvest. The second day, rice is boiled in milk outside the house in an earthen pot. People dress traditionally for this day. The third day is Pongal for cows. Cows are bathed and decorated with ornaments made of beads, flower garlands, bells and sheaves of corn. The fourth day a turmeric leaf is washed and laid on the ground on which left over rice or pongal, betel nuts and leaves are also placed.
