Ramayana Month to be observed at Ayyappa Temple
The General Secretary of Sree Ayyappa Seva Samiti, B. Ponnappan has informed that the Sree Ayyappa Temple, Udaipur will observe Ramayana month from 16th July to 16th August 2012.
The General Secretary of Sree Ayyappa Seva Samiti, B. Ponnappan has informed that the Sree Ayyappa Temple, Udaipur will observe Ramayana month from 16th July to 16th August 2012.
The proceedings will start with a special Havan at 6 in the morning, the Devi Pooja (Bhagwati Seva) in the evening at 7.30, recitation of the Holy Ramayana and other rituals daily for all the 32 days. This year, the Malayalam month of ‘Karkidakom’, which is also observed as the Ramayana month, has 32 days.
A panel consisting of K. Muralidharan, V.G. Nair, P. Sethumadhan Nair, Shantamma and Usha Mohan will recite the Ramayana daily, immediately after the evening Aarti and would complete it in one month. There will also be a daily Bhajan and Annaprasadam on all Saturdays besides including the opening and closing days.
The month of ‘Karkidakam’ is a period of heavy rains in Kerala and in the olden days people used to confine to their homes, spending the evenings reciting the Ramayana. All temples in Kerala observe this month by offering various rituals and in Udaipur also the Ayyappa Temple celebrates this for the benefit of devotees residing here.
