Sikh community marks Lohri
Festival of Lohri was celebrated today on the eve of Makar Sankranti at Sikh Colony. The community people were gathered in large number around the bonfire and celebrated the festival in a traditional way.

Tejendra Singh Robin, president of Gurudwara Sachha Khand Durbar informed that the day started with continous religious and social programs at Gurudwaras. Customary food items were distributed among devotees in the form of Prasad.
Lohri was burnt at night at Sikh Colony; Lohri is also believed to be important custom for new born babies and newly married couples.
Robin said that a cultural program which includes music and dance will be held tonight. Today on day of Sankranti, kite flying festival and a cricket tournament will be held at Sikh Colony.
Lohri is considered to be the new financial year for Sikh and Punjabi communities.
