Sikhs take out colourful Nagar Kirtan procession

Thousands of devotees took part in Nagar Kirtan, a colourful procession which is held three days prior to Guru Nanak Jayanti, in the City on Sunday. The procession, which started at Gurudwara Arjun Darbar, Sector-11, passed through Foota Talab Road before culminating at Gurudwara Dukh Niwaran Shri Guru Nanak Darbar, Sector-14.

The holy book of Sikhs Guru Granth Sahib, was taken in a decorated truck, as the devotees walked along singing hymns and performing the martial arts.

All along the procession, some people were engaged in sweeping a stretch of road on which the truck carrying holy book passed, a part of Sikh tradition.

S. Jasmeet Singh, Manager at Sikh Media Center said that, there are around 5,000 Sikhs in the City. At least 4000 devotees are expected to visit the Gurudwara during the Gurpurab, which falls on November 25, he said.
