Sri Jagannath Rath Yatra delayed by 20 days

This year Sri Jagannath Rath Yatra has been delayed by 20 days due to “Adhik Maas”. Last year Rath Yatra was carried out on 25th June but this year it will be carried out on 14th July.

As per Hindu calendar, 16th May to 13th June is the period of Adhik Maas. This is the reason why every festive occasion will be delayed this year. As per this, 27th or 28th June will be the “Abhishek” day of Lord Jagannath. Following this the procession will be carried out on 14th July.

As usual, the procession will start at 3 p.m. from Jagdish Temple, take a round of the city’s main locations and finally end up at night at Jagdish Temple. A number of organisations will participate in this Rath Yatra. Every year this Rath Yatra proceeds under the banner of Bhagwan Jagannath Rath Yatra Committee. People from all walks of life join the procession enchanting prayers and mantras.

Preparations are on for the Rath Yatra. Meetings are being carried out daily to make this Rath Yatra as grand as ever. A meeting will be held at 7 p.m. today at Jagdish Chowk office to finalise the necessary arrangements and responsibilities to be carried out during the procession.
