Residents and devotees contributed significantly to the initiatives taken by local media and administration by ensuring that the Ganpati Visarjan be eco-friendly.

At the end of the 10 day festival, the road yesterday were amass with devotees taking their respective Ganpati murtis to the culination point.  Previously, the idols used to be submerged in the various water bodies in the city.  However, local media and administration bringing up the issue of water pollution due to idol immersion in lakes, the residents took heed and for the second year in succession, have ensured that lakes are not polluted as a result of the visarjan.  Though all the idol processions reached lakes and water bodies, the visarjan process was more allusive than actual – thereby ensuring that lakes are not polluted.

Administration estimates that around 4000 big and small idols were prevented from being immersed into the lakes.  Such initiative has already been taken during the Moharram procession in the city too.  A devout atmosphere prevailed in the city on Anant Chaturdashi yesterday as even puja items and flowers were prevented from being immersed into the lakes.
