The wait is over.  Above average monsoon this few weeks has resulted in the hub spots of the City of Lakes to get full to the brim…and Fateh Sagar Lake poured over with the gates opening today at 10:30AM today. 

With Sisarma bringing in the first lot of water to the lake via Pichchola and then Madar taking over, Fateh Sagar has fresh water which will send the vibes of Udaipur, also known as the Venice of the East across the world once again. As the gates were opened, those present witnessed the event with euphoria.  As the news spread, the Paal area was crowded with people yearning to have a first look at the milky waters flowing over the banks of Fateh Sagar. Swaroop Sagar Gates  opened on 30 August with the water filling up the Ayad River, followed up with the over flow of Udai Sagar lake at Debari on 1 September. After a wait over the weekend, Udaipur got to see what it was waiting for over the last two years – Fateh Sagar filled to the brim and overflow as the gates opened, after a session of heavy rain yesterday towards evening. The waters from the Swaroop Sagar and Fateh Sagar overflow are flowing across Ayad to culminate at Udai Sagar, which is already over flowing.  The water from Udai Sagar is leading to Vallabhnagar Dam, which is presently 9ft below its brim.
