Diwali, 30th October was the last day of the week long Diwali Mela, with maximum crowd in the vicinity of Bapu Bazaar and Town Hall road, all strolling past the well-lit shops and roads and a few getting into the Diwali Mela which was at its culmination stage today.
Both Bapu Bazar and Town Hall road were very well-lit, to reflect the spirit of Diwali, with all shopkeepers, performers on stage, public and Police, ensuring that there was no excess traffic on the roads, which could cause accidents or commotion, as well as ensuring that no garbage was spread on the roads, thereby leaving the main roads clean.
The Diwali Mela had its fair share of visitors to the Giant Wheel, Oscillating Boat, and other areas, where both children and adults could have their fair share of fun.
Well of Death or “Maut ka Quan”, was however, the most amazing of the events. Performed by a young Team of 4 Artists, from different parts of India, the 5 minutes of performance at gravity defying high speed left the audience in awe. Equally appreciable was the composed attitude of the performers both, pre, during and post the event, with each performer shifting duty with equal ease. The performance was so intriguing that we realized that the foursome, is getting into a new life each time a performance ends. Due to lack of staff, the performers were also managing the entry gates and ensuring proper exit.
We had an opportunity to visit this event and speak to the performers, who belonged to different parts of India – Rajasthan, MP and Maharashtra. Rahim Khan, age 23 years, was the troupe leader, being supported by Suman who is 32 years and does the bike, whereas Rani, 23 and Nazim 19, manage the car during the performance. A video of the death defying stunt is embedded below for you to see.
All the way across Bapu Bazar, music performances were being held on different stages setup on the sides, giving visitors a reason to stop and watch their performance. Rajasthani Folk Dance and a Doraemon skit was held for children at the Amaron sponsored stage setup in the middle of the Bapu Bazar main road. The Mela in photos, with its different colors.
All in all, a wonderful end to the Diwali celebrations at Udaipur.
