After the release of DDLJ, Aamir and Shah Rukh went on a world tour during which the latter gifted Aamir a laptop
June 3, 2025 - The three Khans of Bollywood - Aamir, Shah Rukh and Salman - started their acting careers around the same time. That is why people often tend to compare them. However, Aamir Khan, the most experienced of the three Khans, believes that there is no competition between them anymore. He also said that the competition in the past was healthy - at least from his point of view.
Speaking on Raj Shamani’s podcast, Aamir said, “There was a time when there was competition. In the 90s, there was some tension about who was more successful. Everyone wants to be the most admired and successful. That’s natural. But I have never been part of any negativity. I just can’t. For me, the competition has always been positive.”
Inspiration, Not Jealousy
Aamir Khan said, “If I like someone’s work, I feel inspired to do something good too. But I don’t feel jealous. I feel happy when others do well. We have all been in the industry for 30-35 years - not just me, Shah Rukh or Salman. Many actors and actresses from our time are still working. There is mutual respect and honesty between us. I never really competed with anyone - I always competed with myself.”
On SRK’s DDLJ Performance
Talking about the 1995 film Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge, Aamir said, “I never felt like I had to do such a big romantic film. I just enjoyed watching it. Shah Rukh did a great job. So, I didn’t feel the need to compete with him.”
SRK’s Gift
After DDLJ released, Aamir and Shah Rukh went on a world tour. At that time, Shah Rukh bought a laptop - and got one for Aamir, too. But Aamir never used it.
“My manager came to me after four years and said, ‘Sir, can I use your laptop for work?’ I had totally forgotten about it. He showed it to me, and I said, ‘You can use it.’ You won’t believe it - it didn’t even turn on after lying unused for so long,” Aamir laughed.
More Recognition for Others
One thing that bothers Aamir is that people only talk about the three Khans.
“I feel bad because Ajay Devgn, Akshay Kumar, Hrithik Roshan - they are also from our generation. They’ve been working for 30-35 years and are successful. People should also talk about them,” he said.
