2 children killed and 8 others  were severely injured,when a water tank busted out at the construction site of mega town planning – Treasure Town at Bedla, Udaipur today morning at 8:30 am.

A 11 year old girl-Deepa &  a 9 year old boy Bijoli died on the spot and  1 out of 8 others injured is admitted in the critical condition at M.B Hospital I.C.U.

A sudden blow of heavy water-flow hit the people nearby so hard that it thrown them few meters away from the destroyed tank.

Deepa, daughter of Darbari hailed from Madhya Pradesh and was working as daily wage laborer for the Treasure Town construction project. 11 year old Deepa died on the spot.

Bijoli- son of Robin hails from West Bengal, died on the way to hospital. Out of 8 who got injured, 1 person is admitted in I.C.U. & rest 2 are admitted in general ward.

The accident occurred when the construction laborers of treasure town were completing their daily chores, some women were washing clothes and children were bathing.

According to the people presenton the spot  this tank was newly built and had the  capacity of approx. 2500 liters.

Devraj, a laborer from Bihar who was working on this site from last 1 year told UT reporter “we were asking them to build a water tank for our daily chores but our demands were overlooked from more than a month, finally this water tank was constructed a week before and you can see what happened now”

When asked the possible reason of this incident, devraj said ‘see how weak this tank was built, there is only bricks and cement, no iron rod to support. A tank which is going to carry weight of 2500 liters of water cannot stand on such a weak construction’

On being probed about the incident, S.H.O. Niranjan Prasad Alaha revealed: “No complain was lodged against the incident. There is no report of the engineers working for this project. The use of poor raw material in the construction of this water tank is the prime reason of the incident.”

Treasure Town a luxurious residential complex is extended to 13,60,000 sq. ft of area with all facilities of swimming pool, home theater, Wi-Fi, gymnasium, party hall, community center, car parking and parks.

More than 1000 workers who are mainly from Bihar, Kolkata, Chattisgarh and Madhya Pradesh are working on this mega township of Udaipur.

On being asked about the head authority of the township, laborers and people present there told that Manohar Sharma is the head of all major affairs. When UT reporter called Mumbai headquarters of Treasure Town to probe, we were told that Indore’s treasure town office tackles the Udaipur project work. When authorities of Indore were called up, there was no response .

This magnificent piece of architecture has a dark side which includes many similar accidents while construction but no light was ever thrown on it. Some anonymous sources have revealed that such incidents are common in treasure town, around 2-3 laborers have also faced accidental deaths in past while working for this huge construction project.

But because of powerful influence this news did not come out. This all raises question marks on the authorities of Treasure Town and safety loop holes.

It won’t be wrong to say that this so called “Gold Class Township” is erected on tears of weeping innocent laborers who risk their poverty stricken life to work day and night to stand these dream homes for rich class.
