A Station House Officer (SHO) and a Head Constable posted at Fatehnagar police station near Udaipur fled on Friday night after learning that ACB (Anti-Corruption Bureau) sleuths had caught their agent red-handed while accepting a bribe of Rs. 4,50,000/- from the complainant. The bribe was meant to avoid taking action against the complainant and one of his friends in a case registered under the NDPS Act at Dabok police station.

The accused SHO, Suresh Meena who was the investigation officer of the case was demanding the bribe from the complainant through one of the Head Constables Mahaveer Prasad of his police station.

The complainant approached the ACB and revealed that the accused SHO had initially demanded Rs. 8 lakhs as a bribe. However, after negotiations, the amount was later reduced to Rs. 4.5 lakhs. Frustrated with the incessant demands, the complainant decided to file a formal complaint with the ACB.

Acting upon the complaint the special unit of ACB Jaipur initiated an investigation into the matter. After verifying the conversation, the ACB sleuths laid a trap on Friday and apprehended Saurabh Meena, the son of the accused SHO, while he was accepting the bribe amount of Rs. 4.5 lakhs. This included Rs. 2.05 lakhs in Indian currency notes and Rs. 3,45,000/- in dummy currency notes on his father's behalf. As per ACB, Saurabh Meena confessed to accepting the bribe on behalf of the accused.

Later the ACB team made him call the accused SHO to inform him that he had collected the payment.

The ACB team was waiting for the SHO to come; however he and the Head Constable involved in the crime got a whiff of the trap and fled from the spot. They did not go back to the police station and are absconding since.

The team conducted a search at his residence at Debari in Udaipur. Another team has been dispatched to locate him at his ancestral village, Gram Narhera, in Kotputli.
