ATM fraud: Udaipur ladies duped of Rs 86000
A case of ATM fraud has been registered at Surajpole Police Station. The case pertains to a fraudster duping a mother-daughter duo by changing their ATM card and withdrawing money.
A case of ATM fraud has been registered at Surajpole Police Station. The case pertains to a fraudster duping a mother-daughter duo by changing their ATM card and withdrawing money.
The complainant, Ravi Sharma (r/o Pratap Nagar) informed that his mother and wife had gone to an Axis bank ATM near their house for withdrawing cash. They placed an SBBJ card in the machine but they could not withdraw cash. Looking at their plight, the accused, pretending to help, took their card and swiftly replaced it with another SBBJ card and gave it to them to try again. When the ladies tried again, he noted their password. When the machine still didnt give cash, the ladies returned home.
With the stolen ATM card and knowing the password, the accused first withdrew Rs 6000 from SBI treasury branch ATM at Townhall and then withdrew Rs 40,000 from and ATM from Ahmedabad at 10am next day morning. He then transferred another Rs 40,000 in the name of Bathinda resident Mala Ram and withdrew that amount.
