The Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act Court No. 2 at Bhilwara Session Court, aquttied 7 of the 9 accused in the gang rape and murder case that took place on 2 August 2023 back in Shahpura area of Bhilwara district. The court found the remaining two accused guilty of the offence. However, the court has reserved the verdict.
Public Prosecutor, Mahavir Kisnawat said, "POCSO Court No. 2 acquitted seven accused in the case. Two people have been declared guilty. The decision on punishment has been reserved."
Special Public Prosecutor Mahaveer Kanhawat in his message to media said, "Nine people including the key accused Kanha, Kalu their wives, parents and other relatives were found to be involved in the matter during the police investigation. Police have conducted a thorough investigation of the matter and filed the charge sheet within a month. However, the court on Saturday aquttied 7 of the 9 accused, while held two of them, viz. Kanha and Kalu guilty of the henious crime. However, the verdict will be pronounced on Monday and we will later make an appeal in the High Court. But for now we should get the copy of the court's order".
The incident that took place on 2 August, 2023 shook the entire country, where a minor girl was gang raped and later burnt alive in a coal furnace. The Bhilwara police had done the investigation and filed a 473 page Charge Sheet in relation to the crime, that includes various shocking revelations in it. The Court also considered this murder as a Category A Crime. The hearing in this case, which has been going on for about 10 months, has now been completed. The entire incident along with the Kanhaiya Murder case in 2022 had become a part of the political bickering between the BJP and Congress in the lead up to the Rajasthan Assembly elections in 2023.
The matter was investigated by Deputy SP Bhilwara, Shyam Sunder Bishnoi and was closely monitored by the ADG Crime Rajasthan Dinesh MN and Inspector General of Police Ajmer Range Lata Manoj.
