Manju Sahu, Councillor of Ward no. 44 (Parshad) has been arrested today by the Anti Corruption Bureau for demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs.15000 in return for granting permission towards house renovation from one of the residents of Chabila Bheruji area.
According to sources, Irfan Ahmed, a resident of Chabila Bheruji Marg, near Anjuman approached ACB a few days back and complained against Manju Sahu’s illicit financial demand for giving permission towards renovation of his house. Acting on the tip off, the ACB team laid a trap and arrested one Ambalal Suthar, tenant of Manju Sahu who took the money from Irfan after being directed by Manju.
The 35-year-old BJP councilor was arrested along with Ambalal Suthar by a team of ACB led by Rajendra Prasad Goyal, ADSP. Both were interrogated at the Surajpol Police Station.
“Irfan Ahmed was asked for Rs. 20,000 as a bribe by Manju Suthar on 9th May, 2012. The ACB was informed about the same by Irfan Ahmed on 10th May. By this time, the bribe amount was settled for Rs. 15,000 by Manju Sahu, who was not aware of the fact that her conversation with Irfan was being recorded on the phone clandestinely”, said Rajendra Prasad Goyal.
According to unconfirmed sources, BJP has expelled Manju Sahu for her involvement in the bribery.
Defending the councilor, her husband Kanhiyalal said that his wife is innocent and she has become a victim of conspiracy.
