A bomb hoax in a local bank branch has put the Udaipur police and administration in a worrying situation today, on the eve of Independence Day. After nearly one and half hour of a fine search operation, the police has finally declared the information to be the work of some miscreants and anti-social elements.

According to the police, at 3:15 pm a phone call at Hathipol Police Station shocked constable Naru Lal when the caller said that a bomb placed in SBBJ bank’s Chetak branch will blast soon. The branch in question is located opposite Hathipol Police Station.

At 4pm, nearly an hour after receiving the threat call, all bank employees were asked to move out of the bank premises. Security teams consisting of police sniffer dogs, CID officials and a special team for bomb diffusement searched every nook and corner of the two storey bank in the busy area of Hathipol.

“No bomb was found from the bank premises”, said Gajendra Singh Panwar, Sub-inspector at Hathipol Police Station.

All senior police officials also reached the spot and checked the situation. T he road traffic was affected for more than one hour.

Now the police is looking for that unidentified caller and have contacted BSNL for providing assistance towards further investigation.
