A 43 year old woman has been arrested by the police after she strangulated her own son to death here at Saheli Nagar area of Udaipur on Sunday morning, said Station House Officer of Ambamata police station Hanuwant Singh Rajpurohit.

Rajpurohit said that the incident occured on Sunday morning at around 6.30 am when the woman Manisha Pareek and her 14 year old son Puranjay Pareek were alone at their house located at first floor of the two storied building at Saheli Nagar area of the city. Manisha's husband Deepak was out for morning walk. Manisha strangulated her son with the help of a rope. After the murder she herself called police control room and informed the police about the incident confessing her crime.

When the team of Ambamata police reached on the spot the main gate of the house was locked from inside. The police team somehow managed to enter the house using a ladder. The accused woman was arrested and shifted to the police station, said Rajpurohit.

Rajpurohit said " During the initial investigation it is found that the accused woman is mentally ill from last 5 years and was under treatment, she never go out of her house.The family lives on the first floor of the house while Deepak's elder brother stays at the ground floor of the house.Though the family members of the accused woman is claiming that she was mentally ill but the police is now investigating it too. Before killing her son the woman called her husband Deepak to bring some vegetables. After committing the crime she herself called the police and confessed the crime."

Rajpurohit said that the deceased boy was the only son of his parents and was studying in class 8th. He had also celebrated his 14th birthday 3 days back.

The body was shifted to the mortuary and was handed over the relatives after the postmortem. Whereas the accused woman is still under police interrogation and has been booked under several sections of Indian Penal Code including section 302
