Use of prohibited items by prisoners continues unabated in Udaipur Central Jail. The authorities recovered 2 mobiles that were left unclaimed along with 1 SIM Card and a 30 grams of Cannabis from the prison cells on Wednesday, 17 May. Additional SP (City) Manjeet Singh informed that the items were confiscated during on-going inspection of the Jail.
ADM (City) Prabha Guatam and Additional SP (HQ) Ranjeeta Singh, under whose supervision the inspection was carried out, were also present during the operation, along with other officials. The police have seized two mobile phones and a SIM card from Cell no. 7 of the Jail, while 30 grams Cannabis was seized from a murder convict Tara Chand, who was lodged in Cell no. 8 of the jail.
Two seprate cases were registered under Section 42 and section 8/25 of the Prison Act at Surajpol police station of the city, Ranjeeta Singh added. Singh further informed that more than 150 policemen including Additional SP Ranjeeta, 2 DySPs and Station House Officers of more than 10 police station raided the Central Jail in the wee hours on Wednesday and confiscated the prohibited items during the raid.
Presence of Mobile Phones, SIM Cards and Cannabis invariably indicates negligence of the jail administration and also about the law and order situation in the Central Jail at Udaipur.
