College Student Stabbed to Death, 2 Arrested

19-year-old Jaipal Singh Mertiya (photo inset), a 1st year student of B.Sc. (BN College) was stabbed to death by more than 10 suspected students from Commerce College. The ill-fated and shocking incident occurred early of this afternoon at MB College’s ground where Mertiya was found lying in the pool of blood.
Serial injured Jaipal was rushed to Choudhary Hospital, where he was declared dead. The tragic incident spread like a jungle fire among students’ fraternities and hundreds of people gathered outside mortuary of MB Hospital and protesting the postmortem of the victim.
Protestors demanded immediate arrest of the five main accused whose names were not disclosed till the news is published, however police detained one person and another suspect was also taken into custody.
A student caught and handed over to police by MLSU Student Leader Pankaj Borana while the student was allegedly talking on phone and informing someone about the situation at hospital.
According to sources, the conflict between few students of Commerce College and BN College raised in the recently held college-fest Vanijyam 2012, following the enmity, today more than half a dozen youth from Commerce College started arguing with Jaipal Singh Mertiya outside the commerce college.
Mertiya ran away towards MB College sports ground where he was caught by the attacker and stabbed several times before fleeing. Mertiya was seriously injured and rushed to Choudhary Hospital where he was pronounced dead by the doctors.
Mertiya, resident of Padampura, Pali District was staying in a hostel. Supporters of the victim demanded immediate arrest of the accused and also demanded compensation of Rs.10 Lac. The supporters also insisted a constable job for victim’s elder brother and free medical aid for victim’s father who is a heart patient.
All senior police officers with heavy police force were deployed at MB Hospital to maintain law and order.
