Users asked to install fraud App which translates into hacking users' Bank Account

Cyber Crime department and Police department have issued an advisory, educating users on responding to fake messages from numbers posing to be PayTM messages.

As per the advisory, it was reported that mobile users are receiving fake messages from BH-IPayTM informing the users that they need to update with KYC within 24 hours failing which their PayTM accounts will be blocked.

The message advises users to download an App from the Google PlayStore, subsequent to placing a call on a number given in the message.  According to the advisory, this App is designed to extract the Bank details from the PayTM account and subsequent transactions lead to payment withdrawl from the users Bank account.

Accordingly, users are advised neither to share their OTP with unknown numbers nor install any App from Google PlayStore on the instructions received from unknown numbers, either by call or by SMS.

The advisory further states that users need to ensure that they physically verify items bought through OLX as well.
