Udaipur, May 16, 2025 - A minor dispute over the price of lemons in the Dhanmandi area of Udaipur escalated into a violent altercation last night, May 16, resulting in tension in the locality. A vegetable vendor and his son were assaulted, prompting swift police action. By today, May 16, six suspects were taken into custody, one of whom is reported to be a habitual offender.

In protest, traders in Dhanmandi kept their shops closed this morning, expressing dissatisfaction with the administration. Later in the day, they submitted a memorandum to officials demanding the arrest of all culprits and enhanced security. Following assurances and the arrests, the market reopened.

The incident occurred around 8:00 pm yesterday, when two young men arrived at a roadside cart to buy lemons. An argument broke out over the pricing but was diffused and the youths left. However, around 10:00 pm, the miscreants returned and attacked the vegetable vendor, Satyabir Singh, and his son.

The attack caused panic in the area and angry locals retaliated by setting fire to some carts and goods in the market.

SP Yogesh Goyal, Deputy SP, Additional SP and senior police officials, including the Station House Officers from six police stations, rushed to the site and brought the situation under control. The injured were admitted to MB Hospital.

The condition of the victims is reported to be stable and the situation in the area is now peaceful.
