Clash and arson in Dhanmandi; one seriously injured in attack by miscreants, heavy policemen deployment in area and across the city
Udaipur, May 16, 2025 – Tension prevailed in the Dhanmandi police station area of Udaipur city last night, May 15, after an attack on a vegetable vendor in front of the Santoshi Mata Temple located at Teej Ka Chowk in which two people were injured, one of them severely.
According to eyewitnesses, tension built up at around 8:00 pm after a minor argument broke out between a vegetable vendor outside the Maheshwari Dharamshala and two young men who had come to buy vegetables. This led to stone pelting by the buyers who threw stones at the vendor and fled the scene. Following this, the vendor and his father Satyabir went to the police station to lodge a complaint.
Shortly thereafter, a group of about half a dozen armed youths returned to the market and attacked Satyabir who was standing at the spot and then ran away. He was severely injured and onlookers rushed him to the emergency unit of MB Hospital.
Following the incident, the atmosphere in the area became tense and a big crowd gathered at the spot. The angry protestors set some stalls of the vegetable market behind the Santoshi Mata Temple on fire.
Police rushed to the scene and brought the situation under control. The Fire Department was called in to bring the blaze under control.
Given the seriousness of the incident, District Superintendent of Police Yogesh Goyal visited the spot and reinforced police deployment there. Police forces from eight police stations were brought to the site. Members of several religious and social organisations also arrived at the scene.
According to reports, the locals have demanded the immediate arrest of the accused. As per police sources, one suspect has been detained.
In protest, traders from the Dhanmandi area have announced a shutdown of the market today, May 16.
