The gang used to steal the vehicles, change the chassis numbers and sell them to 2nd hand car dealers in Rajasthan, UP, Assam, Mizoram and Haryana. A high tech gadget that can hack into the system of cars with advanced lock mechanism has also been recovered. The device was used to unlock the vehicles without breaking the windows. The gadget is worth 2 lakh rupees.

The thieves are repeat offenders. They used to travel from one city to another in stolen cars, had all the documents handy which helped them cross the interstate borders. Then they used to do rounds of the city, identify their target in the day and steal the cars at night using the master key. Police is interrogating the gang to identify the buyers of the stolen vehicles in different states. So if you have been one of the buyers of the 2nd hand SUV vehicle, it is advised that police must be informed at the earliest.
