An interstate vehicle theft racket was busted by Gurugram police on 13th January’21. The gang has stolen more than 200 SUVs in the past 2 years and sold them in Rajasthan, Assam, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana and Mizoram.

If you have bought 2nd hand SUV from your local 2nd hand car dealer or are planning to buy one, then you need to be cautious. You can land up in trouble as the SUV that you fell happy with, might quite possibly be one of the 200 plus stolen vehicles that police is searching for. Kingpin Kikheto Achuri of Dimapur in Nagaland was arrested by Gurugram police. His 2 close aides were arrested in December’20 while they were trying to steal SUV from Sector 29.

The gang used to steal the vehicles, change the chassis numbers and sell them to 2nd hand car dealers in Rajasthan, UP, Assam, Mizoram and Haryana. Police recovered 2 SUVs from Achuri worth rupees 70 lakhs. The gang needed less than 3 minutes to steal an SUV and they stole at least 2 vehicles per day.

High security number plates of the vehicles of Arunachal Pradesh have been recovered from the gang. A high tech gadget that can hack into the system of cars with advanced lock mechanism has also been recovered. The device was used to unlock the vehicles without breaking the windows. The gadget is worth 2 lakh rupees.

The thieves are repeat offenders. They used to travel from one city to another in stolen cars, had all the documents handy which helped them cross the interstate borders. Then they used to do rounds of the city, identify their target in the day and steal the cars at night using the master key. Police is interrogating the gang to identify the buyers of the stolen vehicles in different states. So if you have been one of the buyers of the 2nd hand SUV vehicle, it is advised that police must be informed at the earliest.
