Elderly man dies in Salumber, kin blame forest officials

Udaipur,05.10.23 - A 70 year old man died after vehicle in which he was travelling  was stopped and he was beaten up by a group of people here at Salumber district on Wednesday night.

The family of the deceased man Nazim Khan has accused the forest officials for thrashing him to death, but the cops are yet to ascertain the facts.

As per the report of the Nazim's family he allegedly used to work as labourer and was taken to the forest by two of his associate Sher Mohammed and Siddique Khan to collect wood. He was not aware that weather the wood was cut illegally or not.

As soon as they reached at the forest a team of forest officials suddenly nabbed them and started thrashing them. During the  incident Nazim and Sher Mohammed sustained severe injuries and were rushed to the local hospital while Siddique was detained by the team and later released on bail.

In the FIR the relatives of the deceased man stated that it was Siddique who informed them about the incident following which they went to the hospital. As the condition of Nazim deteriorated the doctors referred him to the MB government hospital of Udaipur where he was declared brought dead and his body was shifted to mortuary.

Aggrieved over the incident the relatives of the deceased man staged a protest outside the Salumber Collectorate and also handed over a memorandum the district collector Pratap Singh action against the culprits, compensation and government job for one of the member of his family.

Sp Salumbar Arshad Ali said that a  case has been registered under section 302 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC ) and an investigation has been launched.Further action will be taken depending in the investigation report.

However the postmortem of the dead body has been conducted and handed over to the relatives while the investigation of the matter is still on, said Sp Arshad Ali.
