The name implies that a victim is duped by a fraudulent website. Following Covid, several vaccination and Covid testing schemes emerged. Online, there have been various fraudulent Covid testing sites. Be wary of bogus websites that provide Covid Vaccination or Test schemes.

They are designed to steal personal information such as credit card details, Social Security numbers, and medical records.

The fraudster will always claim to be authorities from Covid Testing Centers and will supply you with a Covid test at your house. Following that, they will ask you to pay a fee to confirm your test booking. There have been reports of websites claiming to offer free tests but then billing customers later.  

How to avoid this scam?

• Always book any kind of test through registered Pathology laboratories only.
• Do not make a payment in advance when you are doubtful. If anybody asks for an advance payment, it is a matter of caution and one should not go ahead with those transactions with requisite precaution. 
• Report the occurrence to the local cybercrime police station and the National Cybercrime Reporting http://cybercrime.gov.in/
