A woman was conned today by two unidentified men who introduced themselves as police officers and looted a 2 tola gold chain under the pretext of warning the lady of the recurrent chain snatching incidents recurring in the city.

Nirmala Dashora, wife of Manoharlal Dashora and a resident of Bhopalpura, was walking near Gumaniyawala Petrol Pump at around 7:30 when she was approached by two men who were already present at the scene. The men asked the victim to remove her gold chain, saying it is too risky to carrying ornaments like this when there are so many snatching incidents reported in the city.

According to the FIR lodged by the victim, a third man had appeared at the scene who was also wearing a chain. “They asked him to take off his gold chain and returned it enfolded in a piece of paper. This made me trust them,” said the victim. Convinced, she took off her gold chain and showed it to the muggers who appeared to return it the same way. After walking a few steps however, she checked the paper only to find it empty.

According to Bhopalpura Police, there were a total of three men who had been involved in the crime including the third person, who was used to win the victim’s trust.
