Hathipol Thana police have arrested two persons accusing them of opening fire on a man they had an argument with, over fishing at Lake Swaroop Sagar.

The police chased the accused and nabbed them near the Education Department office at Chetak circle. They also seized a country made pistol, a live bullet & a knife from the accused.

The accused were identified as Gulam Dastagir & Zenulabedin of Silwatwadi area. On preliminary investigation it was found that Gulam is a history sheeter booked under the Ghanta Ghar police station, having around 11 cases registered at various other Police Stations of the city,said SHO Ram Sumer.

The incident occurred yesterday around 4pm at Swaroop sagar area when the accused Gulam & Zenul were fishing on the lakeside. They got into an argument with the victim, Usman Gani of Bagar ki Gali area of Hathipol. Zenul first threatened Usman with a knife & meanwhile Gulam took a pistol out of his pocket and opened fire towards him.

However, the victim somehow saved himself & tried to escape from the scene. Both Zenul and Gulam ran after Usman and during this chase the Police noticed them. This was when the Police started following them and finally caught up with them at Chetak Circle, as informed by the SHO.

Police have seized the weapons and preliminary interrogations have commenced.
