Fraudsters with modus-operandi of claiming to be policemen and duping innocent ladies of their gold jewellery and valuables and back in action. Yesterday, three members of this clan duped a lady of 16 tola gold jewellery claiming to be policemen.Mohini bai (w/o Keshulal Jain) is a resident of Sector-14, was returning home from her way to a temple situated nearby yesterday morning. On her way back, she stopped at a kirana store to buy some essentials. She then proceeded back to her place. On the way, she was intercepted by two people claiming to be policemen. The duo warned her of potential robbery ahead and asked her to take off her ornaments and put it in a bag. Before the lady could think much, another fraudster came running towards them. The earlier duo stopped him and admonished him for wearing gold jewellery knowing that there was robbery going around. This fraudster apologised and placed jewellery in bag and went off.
Post this, the duo gave the unsuspecting lady a paper to wrap her jewellery. They then swiftly replaced the wrapped paper and gave another paper to the lady containing fake ornaments. The lady brought the paper wrap home and when she opened it there did she realise that the jewellery therein was fake. She immediately rushed to the police station with her family and lodged a complaint.
Police got into action and put up check posts at various points in the city but were unable to trace the trio. As per the complaint, one accused was aged around 50, one around 35-40 and one around 25 years.
As per the FIR, Mohini bai and family are residents of Mumbai and had come to her parental house for some function.
Considering these types of robberies, police has started distributing pamphlets to citizens warning them of such actions.
