Five people were arrested at Goverdhan Vilas area of Udaipur on Thursday for allegedly extorting money after befriending people on dating app.
The accused would contact the people on whatsapp and Instagram, lure them on the name of providing them girlfriends and boy friends to duped them of money.
Those arrested were identified as Bhanu Pratap Singh (30) resident of Agra Uttar Pradesh,Satyam Singh (23) a resident of Agra Uttar Pradesh, Rahul Vyas (25) a resident of Karoli,Amul Ahirwar (24) a resident of Kudela Madhya Pradesh and Mohit (20) a resident of Agra.
SP Udaipur Bhuvan Bhushan Yadav said that it was on the information of the source that a police team from Goverdhan Villas police station raided a house at Video Colony where the gang was operating the racket.
During the interrogation the accused revealed that they use to send messages to the targeted people including both boys and girls, they offer them to get them boyfriends and girl friends and also lure them for paying money to them.But before that they demand them to pay an amount of registration fee that vary from person to person.The victims pay them the registration fee through Paytm and Google Pay and once they receive the amount they block thier numbers, said SP Bhushan.
However all the accused has been booked under under section 420, 406 of Indian Penal Code and are still under the course of interrogation, the police is interrogating them about the number of people targeted by the accused and also about other members of the gang.
