In a historical decision taken by the ADJ3 court at Udaipur, 9 accused were sentenced to life imprisonment after being convicted of murder and life threatening attacks.

The case dates back to 31 May 2014, when one Mangi Lal Rebari (30) was murdered and two of his mates, Baluram and Ramlal were also attacked.  The attackers chopped off Baluram’s leg and Ramlal was seriously injured with the weapons.

As informed by Advocate Ravindra Singh Hiran, the lawyer acting on behalf of the victims’ families, all 10 accused in the incident have been sentenced to life imprisonment.  One of the 10, Lalaram had earlier died of ailments while in jail, while three others were kept in judicial custody while the hearing was going on.  The other 6 were out on bail.  All of them have been sentenced to life imprisonment.

FIR, no. 261/14 filed at Pratap Nagar police station by the victims’ families, 10 people were charged with murder of Mangi Lal and amputating the legs of Balu Ram and Ram Lal.  Shambhu Singh Rebari was the key accused in the FIR, having planned the entire attack and murder.

The others sentenced to life imprisonment are: Hiralal Rebari, Arjun Rebari, Mukesh Rebari, Govind Rebari, Gautam Rebari, Udai Lal Rebari, Madan Rebari and Fateh Singh. Shambhu, Gautam and Udai have been under judicial custody all through while the others were out on bail.

About the Murder

On 31 May 2014, 10 persons attacked Mangi Lal, Balu Ram and Ram Lal, while they were on their way from Ladio ka Kheda (opposite Debari) to Udaipur.  The attackers laden with sticks, iron pipes and swords suddenly stopped the trio and started beating them. During the attack, Mangilal received severe head injuries and he died on the spot. His brother Baluram and neighbor Ramlal were admitted with multiple injuries.

A large number of villagers gathered at the mortuary during postmortem. Seeing the tense situation all SHOs and DYSPs reached MB Hospital. The body was sent to the village in the presence of police.

Police officials informed that on 17^th May all the accused had a fight with Mangilal and his neighbor Balu on the issue of a common road passing between their houses. Following that, they were instructed by the police not to fight again.

All of the accused were arrested by the Police on 7th June 2014 from Chirwa ka Ghata while they were fleeing to Nathdwara.  Mangi Lal, Baluram and Laluram were also eye witnesses to an earlier murder regarding the same piece of land.  The murder was probably done with an intention to eliminate the witnesses.
