Jan 24, 2026 – An Indian national was shot dead in the US allegedly by her husband who also killed three other people in, what is suspected, to be a family dispute. The incident took place early on Friday (January 23) in the US State of Georgia where police, responding to a 911 call, found four persons with fatal gunshot wounds at a residence in Lawrenceville city near Atlanta.

According to the local media, the suspect has been identified as Vijay Kumar (51) of Atlanta. The deceased are Kumar’s wife Meemu Dogra (43), Gourav Kumar (33), Nidhi Chander (37) and Harish Chander (38).

According to the Consulate General of India in Atlanta, the alleged shooter has been arrested and charged with four counts each of aggravated assault, felony murder and malice murder along with one count of cruelty to children in the first degree and two counts of cruelty to children in the third degree.

Gwinnett County police said three children were present in the house when the shooting began. The children hid in a closet to protect themselves, and one of them managed to call 911 and guided police to the scene of crime within minutes.

The authorities believe the killing was domestic in nature and are investigating to ascertain what led to the shooting. Preliminary probe revealed that Kumar and Dogra had an argument at their residence in Atlanta before travelling with their 12-year-old child to the Lawrenceville home of Dogra’s relatives - Gourav and the Chanders (where two other children were also present). What transpired there which led to the shooting is being investigated.
