An eighteen year old student in Kota, ended her life a night before she was going to write her JEE paper. The girl committed suicide by hanging herself from the ventilation window of her own house in Kota, where she was staying with her parents and preparing for her JEE examinations. This is the second case of suicide in Kota this year. In 2023, 26 cases of suicide have been reported in Kota, which is the highest so far.
She left behind a heart breaking suicide note, in which she apologized to her parents on her inability to write the JEE Main examinations, which are currently being held at centres across India. JEE examinations are held for entrance into the Engineering colleges in India. This year, the NTA has set 30% as the qualifying marks in JEE Main for appearing in the JEE Advanced.
The girl was going to write her JEE Main examination on 30 January. The suicide note indicates that she was under stress for not being ready for the JEE Main examination. She hung herself off the ventilation window in the morning on Monday, 29 January. She was living with her parents in Kota and her father works as a security guard in a private bank in Kota. As per reports, the family hails from Akawdakhurd in Jhalawar.
The deceased's relative, in a statement to the media said that the girl was repeating her 12th class due to low marks last year and was a good student. She was going to write her JEE paper on 30 January. The incident came to light when her grandmother knocked on her door at 10 in the morning and there was no response. On being alerted, the family found her body hanging from outside the ventilation window.
The first suicide reported in 2024 was that of a boy preparing for his NEET-UG examination. He was living in a hostel and was found hanging in his room on 23 January.
