Anti-corruption Bureau recovered nearly 1.5kg gold and Rs 13.25 Lakh cash from the bank lockers of executive engineer (XEn), Mahaveer Jain and assistant engineer (AEn) Prakash Bhanawat. The duo were arrested red handed from Krishi Mandi, Udaipur on Thursday for accepting bribe of Rs 34,500 and Rs 1,09,500 respectively from a contractor.

ACB officer informed that Rs 13.25 Lakh cash and half kg gold was recovered from locker of Mahaveer Jain. Similarly, gold weighing 900 gms was recovered from locker of Prakash Bhanawat. Together the gold value recovered from both the lockers is around Rs 50 Lakhs. ACB had also seized Rs 35000 cash from Bhanawat’s office in Hiran Magri Sector-5.

The duo were arrested after a contractor working for Krishi Mandi, Udaipur had approached ACB. He said that he had undertaken various works for which Rs 17 lakh payment was pending. When the contractor approached the two engineers, they demanded bribe for releasing the payment.
