another shocking incident came to light when a woman and her alleged boyfriend were beaten, her hair were chopped and they were made to sit half naked in front of all villagers including men, women and children.

Man is a social animal and therefore lives in a society but a society cannot be imagined to sustain for long without rules and regulations which are framed by the learned and experienced people of the group for the social benefit, but imagine what will happen if the makers of society themselves start acting a step above the constitutional laws made for the citizens despite of his or her position.

While a long and never ending debate over the power of ‘Khap’ and Indian administration continues, another shocking incident came to light when a woman and her alleged boyfriend were beaten, her hair were chopped and they were made to sit half naked in front of all villagers including men, women and children.

The order of these hours of long humiliation as a punishment came from Khap panchayat of village, Brahamano ka Gula near Udaipur. However, the dreadful incident occurred on September 12, 2011 but it came to light only when one informer passed the video clipping to local media of Udaipur and Police authority on September 20, 2011.

Soon after the news was published in the local newspapers and electronic media, police became active and arrested nearly 20 people of the village including members of Khap Panchayat.

A 30 year old woman Leela Joshi and her alleged boyfriend Arjun Joshi (21) had an affair from last two years. Arjun is a cousin of Leela’s husband, Dinesh Joshi who had apparently come to know about the alleged extra martial relation of her wife and then he disclosed the matter to the village panchayat.

According to the sources, Leela Joshi is a mother of three children and met Arjun several times in absence of her husband in past two years.

Well, the sin which they had committed or not is less dreadful than what the villagers of Brahmano ka Gula did on September 12.

A cheerful crowd, many of them was recording the shameful act of stripping and thrashing of both man and woman on their mobile phones, laughing on the cries of a woman whom the villagers looked as characterless, has compelled us to feel embarrassed.

According to one newspaper, the police have started investigation and will arrest everyone whom they find in the video clipping.

Fingers are pointed on the role of khaps and their authority of announcing sentences. Additionally, the alarming rise in extra-marital affairs which many a times has resulted in murders, suicides and divorces in rural and urban India is also a major point of consideration.
