A notorious wildlife poacher wanted by Hathipole police station, Udaipur was nabbed today in dramatic style. A team of Delhi Police’s Crime Branch had to survive beating and being bitten up by a mob while it was trying to arrest a wanted “poacher” in central Delhi’s Paharganj Monday. The team however braved all adversities and nabbed the accused Akash. Akash will now be handed over to Hathipole police station.

The accused Akash is facing charges in several cases under the Wildlife Protection Act. He is the son of notorious poacher Sansar Chand. A non-bailable warrant was issued last year against Akash and his mother for allegedly selling leopard hide.  Akash’s mother was arrested  last year while Akash had managed to escape.

A team of 3, lead by Head Constable Hemendra (in photograph above) reached Paharganj on receiving a tip-off. A ws per Hemendra (member of the team that nabbed Akash), “within moments of Akash’s arrest a group of 25 women and 50 men gathered there and prevented the police from taking him away. The mob attacked police with bricks and even bit them.” Hemendra received injuries on his left hand. Hemendra said that they were completely trapped by the mob till local police came to their rescue.

A case has been registered against five persons from the mob in connection with the incident.

The unsung policemen do deserve a lot of accolade.
