Three Police Constables Suspended After Video of Them Beating a Tribal Goes Viral

Three Constables Suspended at Jhadol near Udaipur following a viral video showing them beating up a tribal man at a village in Jhadol

In a serious incident, three police constables from the Jhadol Police Station in Udaipur were suspended following the release of a disturbing video showing them brutally beating, stripping, and dragging a tribal man, Jai Singh, a resident of Jhadol. The footage, which quickly went viral on social media, prompted Udaipur Superintendent of Police (SP) Yogesh Goyal to take immediate action against the officers involved.

The constables identified as Jagdish, Rajendra and Naresh were suspended on 22 August, pending further investigation. SP Goyal has assigned the investigation to the Deputy SP at Jhadol, who is currently probing the incident. Goyal assured that further action would be determined based on the findings of the investigation.

According to Station House Officer (SHO) Ratan Singh of the Jhadol Police Station, the incident unfolded after a complaint was lodged by Kanchan Bai, the mother of Jai Singh. On 19 August, Kanchan Bai reported a heated argument between Jai Singh and herself over an ongoing land dispute. The situation escalated, leading to police intervention.

Upon receiving the complaint, a police team was dispatched to the scene. Jai Singh was detained under Section 170 of the BNSS (earlier Section 151 CrPC), which pertains to unlawful restraint. However, during the transport to the police station, Jai Singh reportedly resisted arrest. The altercation was captured on a mobile phone and later circulated on social media, revealing the severe mistreatment by the police officers.

The disturbing nature of the video has raised serious concerns about police conduct and accountability. The investigations will determine the circumstances of the incident and whether any protocols were violated by the Constables.
