Over 4,000 cases of Electricity Theft have been registered in the financial year beginning April 1, 2019 till date.
Udaipur division accounted for 1,562 registered cases so far, of which 1,151 have been solved and Rs 154.58 Lakh penalty was recovered. 11 people have been arrested in all.
Vigilance Department of the Ajmer Vidhyut Vittran Nigam Ltd (AVVNL) have been conducting raids across the state over the last 9 months, and still the cases of Power theft do not seem to be ceasing. This has become a major setback for the power regulator in the state of Rajasthan.
Teams from the AVVNL Vigilance division as well as the municipal corporation have been on tenterhools while trying to control power theft but have yet to taste success. Engineers XEN, AEN, have been given targets to control power theft and they are all busy in meeting these targets week over week. A permanent solution to this problem is yet to be found.
Across 11 districts that the AVVNL covers in Rajasthan, 13 police stations have registered 3,991 cases of power theft, of which 3,138 have been resolved. Nearly Rs 5 Crore have been recovered as penalty from these illegal borrowers. 116 people have been arrested so far. Police is investigating a few cases while some are still pending in courts.
Of the 8 police stations in Udaipur, 274 cases have been registered in Badi Sadri alone. Rs 17.97 lakh have been recovered under 145 cases, and 4 people have been arrested. Salumber Police have registered 150 cases, which is the least in the Udaipur division. Rs 17.4 Lakh have been recovered afte solving 125 cases, and no arrests have been made.
