An Assistant Engineer placed in Public Welfare Department (PWD) was caught by Anti Corruption Branch of Udaipur while taking bribe of more than 1 lakh rupees from a building contractor.

 
An Assistant Engineer placed in Public Works Department (PWD) was caught by Anti Corruption Branch of Udaipur while taking bribe of more than 1 lakh rupees from a building contractor. Narendra Jain (48), Assistant Engineer (A.En.) at PWD was caught red handed while taking Rs. 1.10 lakh from Chunnilal Rawal, a construction contractor working for PWD. According to the sources, the bribe amount is a commission in return of actual payments for several projects of PWD done by Chunnilal Rawal. PWD Engineer Caught Taking Bribe On the plea of Rawat, Udaipur ACB team led by ADSP Rajendra Prasad Goyal raided the A.En., Narendra’s house at posh area of Shahi Complex, Hiran Magri, Sec-11 while he was taking money from Rawal. Narendra Jain is arrested and booked by Anti Corruption cell; further investigations are still going on by the authorities. What’s the story? According to the sources, under the direction of PWD, Chunnilal Rawal was given the contract of constructing two hostels at MLSU campus, PG Hostel for Girls and another hostel for under graduate students, worth Rs.60 lakhs and Rs.1 crore respectively. The projects were started by the contractor on May 11, 2010 and were completed on July 1, 2011. PG Girl’s Hostel is presently being used by IIM-Udaipur for accommodating their students. As per the information given by one of the ACB officer, A.En., Jain has allegedly demanded 5% commission on every payment by cheque given to the contractor. The officer said that Narendra Jain asked his commission of Rs. 1.30 lakhs from Chunnilal Rawal as per his condition i.e. 5% commission against the payment of Rs. 26 lakhs by two cheques worth Rs. 20 lakhs and Rs. 6 lakhs. Chunnilal somehow managed to convince Narendra to lower the amount to Rs. 1.10 lakhs. While he was giving the said amount, ACB caught the engineer red-handed. A.En. bothering since long Chunnilal said that he was being pressurized by Narendra many times in past. He used to misuse his power of issuing payment and always asked for his ‘share’. ADSP Rajendra Prasad Goyal said, “We have already registered a case against the engineer and investigations are going on for other documents and we will also check his bank lockers.” report by Sayeed Ahmed
