Volunteers of Kshatriya Mahasabha have forcedly closed down most of the city’s colleges today in order to condemn the kidnapping of a teenage girl on 12^th December at Rana Pratap Railway Station. However, the girl was rescued after few days and two of the accused were arrested but some of the attackers including the key accused are still at large.

Udaipur’s BN College, Commerce College, Law College, Arts College and Gurunanak Girl’s College were shut down by angry protestors. In order to stop them, police also used mild force but this was not enough to control the angry mob who demanded the stern action against assailants who not only kidnapped the girl but also fatally attacked her parents and relatives on the night of 12^th December.

Earlier, in the evening today, a joint meeting was held between various religious groups at the Municipality office at Town Hall and they gave an ultimatum to authorities till Monday, 19^th December. If the culprits were not arrested till Monday, they threatened to demonstrate in public. The incident sparked strong agitation among many religious organizations.

As per the newspaper sources, a girl named Srishti, daughter of a retired army man Surendra Singh Chauhan was kidnapped by Wasim, his father Hasan Khan, Wasim’s uncle Muneer and five other people at Maharana Pratap Railway Station on Monday, 12^th December.

When Surendra Singh tried to retaliate, the assailants attacked him and his family members before taking the girl with them. After a few days, Srishti was rescued from an unknown location, while Wasim’s father Hasan Khan and uncle Muneer were arrested and sent to police custody till 20^th December by the court.

According to a notable Hindi Daily published today quoted, “on 18 Dec, Srishti was sent to women’s shelter home and did not show any interest in going with her father, though her statement was considered out of mental trauma she went through all these days.”

The unlawful action by the people involved is surely not to be accepted by society, and action should be taken against such anti-social elements. However we also seek our readers views on the fact of religious intolerances which often becomes a major obstacle in conjuring a socially acceptable relationship between two people from different castes.
