A retired excise officer has been arrested by Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Monday in bribery case.

As per reports, retired district excise officer was held for asking illegal monthly payments from wine shops. Mohan Gupta was arrested by the ACB team on Monday. He was presented before court with details of holding property more than his income and for bribe. As per one of the ACB officers, the ACB team had followed Gupta’s vehicle 2 years back as there were reports against him for demanding illegal payments from the wine shops. When his vehicle stopped outside a wine shop, the team found around 35000 thousand rupees in Gupta’s pockets. When caught red-handed, Gupta confessed taking money from the salesmen of wine shops. He even pleaded to be released saying that there were merely 6 months left for his retirement. Gupta went to the extent of offering 35 thousand rupees (which were there in his picket) to the ACB team and said that he would give them 5 to 7 lakh rupees after reaching Udaipur.

The ACB team seized the cash amount from him and after searching through the government quarter where he lived, they found 1 lakh rupees hidden in clothes. A case of possessing more property than income and a case of bribe has been registered against him. It may be noted that the ACB team finally arrested him 2 years post retirement on Monday after thoroughly investigating the case.
