Robbery at Neemuch Mata Temple; Cash and Crown stolen

Robbers made away with cash and crown of the Goddess at Neemuch Mata temple on Monday night. It was an armed robbery wherein the robbers made away holding the guards at gun-point.

The robbery took place in the night between and Monday and Tuesday at around 1:30 am. There were four security guards at the temple when the robbery took place. A total of six masked robbers reached the temple from the Tiger Hill side. They immediately got the guards at gunpoint and got them to move on one side of the wall.

The robbers then entered the temple and cut the wires of the CCTV camera. They then forcefully opened the donation box and made away with Rs 8000 cash. They also took away the crown of the Goddess before leaving.

At the time of the incident, the temple priest Laxmilal had gone to his relative’s place at Hawala village. Security guards Lajwant Singh, Mangilal Gameti, Madanlal and Mukesh were guarding the place.

The guards raised an alarm when the the robbers were running away. Residents of Dewali immediately rushed towards the temple but by then the robbers had fled.

Incidentally, there was a message floating on Whatsapp a couple of days before the incident about rumours of theft at Neemuch Mata. Police is also investigating if there could be any linkage there.
