A theft of Rs 1 Crore was reported by a jewellery shopkeeper in Bapu Bazaar. The theft happened on Friday night.

A theft of Rs 1 Crore was reported by a jewellery shopkeeper in Bapu Bazaar. The theft happened on Friday night.

The theft happened at Silver Emporium situated at Bapu Bazaar. The thieves made away with gold jewellery, cash and diamond worth Rs 1 Crore.

Interestingly, the locks of the shop were not broken. This has pointed suspicion towards some of the shop workers. Surajpole police has arrested one person in the incident.

Report of theft was lodged by Manish, younger brother of the shopowner at Surajpole police station. As per the report, the shop was shut at 8:30pm like all days. 8 workers of the shop also returned home when the shop was shut.

When the shop was opened on Saturday morning, they found about the theft. The shop owner was in Kolkata for two days and so the workers informed his brother Manish. Manish reached the spot and when he tried to look at the CCTV footage, he realized that the thieves had made away with the hard disk that had the recording stored.

Police estimated 2kg of gold jewellery, diamonds worth Rs 30 Lakh and Rs 8 Lakh cash to be stolen.

Police is suspecting that the thieves may have got inside the shop using duplicate keys
