In the most contemptible incident today, a theft of more than Rs.1 Crore in cash has been reported at Geetanjali Hospital and Medical College, located at Eklingpura N.H 8 Udaipur. The allege theft took place last night.

It is also learnt that yesterday was the last date of the admission procedure for the MBBS course, which was going on from many days. The officials shut down the office after tallying the accounts etc.

Today morning, when the security personnel found the gate of the accounts department unlocked, he informed this to the hospital authorities.

Interestingly the thieves did not forcibly break the lock but instead used keys to open the gate.

After entering the room thieves moved into the mini chamber and then to the main locker room, where they opened the locker and took away cash which is estimated to be around Rs. 1-1.2 crore (as per the hospital authority)

Fortunately, cash amounting to Rs. 70-80 Lacs was found safe in a mini locker which the thieves did not opened.

Top Police officers including Govind Gupta – I.G and Alok Vashisht – S.P arrived at the scene to investigate this one of the biggest theft reported in the city. However, they refused to comment as it is too early to say anything about the theft.

The lobby of administrative block is too large with many rooms in it, but there is no guard appointed in the lobby, however a guard stands outside the administrative block round the clock so it is assumed that the thieves might have entered from the back side of the building, through a window.

There are no CCTV cameras installed in the administrative building and its lobby which might have aided in the investigations.

Dinesh Singh -SHO Sukher Police Station, said, “Because no lock was broken, it seems to be the work of an insider and we are contemplating every aspect of the theft. There were no CCTV cameras installed in this section, which are very necessary at such big hospitals”.
