Ruchita Murder Case shifted to Chittorgarh | No lawyer in Udaipur agreed to defend

Hearing in the brual murder case of Ruchita Gupta has been shifted to Chittorgarh since no lawyer in Udaipur agreed to defend the accused Divya Kothari in the case.

Readers may remember that Ruchita Gupta was brutally murdered in her house 702, Orbit Apartment on 1 Dec, 2016. Since Ruchita was herself a female advocate, members of bar council of Udaipur had decided not to defend the case of Divya Kothari.

As per article 20 of Constitution of India, every person has a right to hire an advocate of his/her choice. Since no advocate agreed to defend Divya Kothari, the court itself provided Divya an advocate. This advocate then filed a petition with Jodhpur High Court and cited that since no advocate in Udaipur is willing to take up Divya’s case, the case should be shifted to some other district court.
