The city police have seized two cars bearing the same number plate parked in a 5 star hotel, last evening 13^th April. Both the cars were being operated as private taxis by their owner. A driver has been arrested and both the cars have been taken into police custody.

According to Ambamata Police, they received information on two cars bearing the same number plate, parked at Hotel Sheraton. The police accordingly picked up two white colored Toyota Innova cars having the same number, RJ-27-TA-1143 and arrested one Rashid Khan of OTC scheme who is said to be the driver of one of the cars.

After initial investigation, the owner of both the cars was identified as Deepak Sen who allegedly used to change the number plate of the cars to make it look alike. “This might be done to earn extra income as all foreign tourists prefer taxi as a mode of transport and taxi vehicles also escape from additional taxes applied on private car owners”, said one of the Police officers investigating the case.

After checking thoroughly, one car’s original number was RJ-06-UA-3000. A case has been lodged under 420 IPC against the owner of the car.
