Banswara: Another knife attack incident unfolded at a government higher secondary school in the Triyon Kúpra area of Banswara district, when an 11th-grade student, Nilesh Bhogora, was apprehended by school authorities for bringing a knife to campus and attacking his classmate.
The incident, which echoes the recent knife attack incident involving a 10th-grade student at a government school in Udaipur, has reignited concerns about student safety and violence in educational institutions.
According to Station House Officer of Sadar Police Station, Dilip Singh, the altercation began after Nilesh, 18, had a dispute with a fellow student over allegations of informing teachers about his absence in the class. The conflict escalated when Nilesh decided to bring a knife to school in retaliation and attacked the victim. Fortunately, the situation was diffused before any harm could be done. Both the attacker and the victim belong to the local tribal community.
The school administration, having received a tip-off about Nilesh's dangerous intentions, acted swiftly. They discovered the knife on him and other items during a search of his school bag. The school administration immediately informed the local police upon which a team from the police station arrived at the scene promptly. Nilesh was detained and is currently under police interrogation.
SHO Dilip Singh further informed, “The investigation revealed that Nilesh had skipped classes after school interval and had not returned to school. When his bag was found abandoned on his desk, the teacher instructed the class monitor to secure the bag in the Principal’s office. Misinterpreting this action as a complaint, Nilesh became annoyed and attempted to attack the class monitor with a knife. The intervention of his classmates and the prompt action by the school staff prevented any serious harm. Nilesh has been arrested and charged under Section 170 BNSS/151 CrPC and Section 4/25 of the Arms Act. He will be presented in court and will face judicial custody.”
Principal of the school Vijay Krishna Vaishnav confirmed that the confrontation occurred outside regular school hours and that the staff acted quickly to manage the situation. "Both students involved are in the 11th grade, and while the incident was outside of normal school hours, our staff responded efficiently to ensure safety."
In the similar incident that took place on Friday, 16 August at the Bhatyani Chohatta Government Senior Senior Secondary School in Udaipur a minor boy of 10th Class was stabbed by one of his classmates over a petty argument between them. The accused boy attacked him with a knife on one of his legs leaving him with fatal injuries, to which he eventually succumbed after a 3 day struggle. The incident took a major turn and the city witnessed vandalism, violence and Internet suspension for five days.
