Bangladesh Unrest: Second Mob Lynching Case

Protests across India over attacks on Hindus in Bangladesh; Yunus government alleges second lynching victim was a 'criminal'

Dec 26, 2025 – Protests have broken out across India over attacks on Hindus in Bangladesh. They have intensified after reports of a second lynching case of a Hindu man, Amrit Mandal Samrat, on Thursday (December 25). Rallies were taken out in several cities including Jammu and Kashmir, New Delhi, Kolkata, Agartala and Bhubaneswar seeking diplomatic intervention by the Indian government.

Samrat was beaten to death by a mob in Bangladesh’s Rajbari district.

This is the second incident of lynching of a Hindu man in Bangladesh in the past few days. Earlier, on December 18, 25-year-old Dipu Chandra Das was killed and his body set ablaze by a mob in Mymensingh. This horrific crime followed widespread violence in the country following the death of student leader Sharif Osman Hadi who had been shot and critically wounded by unidentified assailants.

Meanwhile, the Bangladesh interim government has denied that the lynching of Samrat was linked to communal violence, as being spread on social media, and said the victim was an accused in criminal cases.

The government said that "According to police information and preliminary investigations, it is clearly evident that the incident is in no way related to communal violence.”

An official statement released said the murder was related to extortion and terrorist activities and that the “person killed is top terrorist Amrit Mandal Samrat who came to the area seeking money and died after clashes with the angry local people.” Samrat’s accomplice Salim has been arrested with weapons, the government has said.
