In a bizarre incident, a sub-inspector (SI) from Ratlam fired at Udaipur Police team. One constable was injured in the case.
The SI from Ratlam was on duty in Udaipur to nab a criminal. SI was travelling in a private car. The SI’s private car did not stop at the Police check-post and instead took a U-turn. Udaipur Police then chased the private car. SI opened fire at chasing car and hit one constable.
The SI fired at the police resulting in a bullet injury to a constable from Gogunda police station. Udaipur Police managed to stop the vehicle. Service revolver of SI was taken by Police. Police searched the private car but did not find anything there. The SI said that he mistook chasing Police team to be hooligans and hence opened fired at them for chasing his car.
Udaipur SP, Kailashchandra Vishnoi said that a case has been registered against the SI and his aide for firing at Police team. Initial investigations suggest that SI mistook chasing team to be rogues. Being a stranger to the place and fearing deserted road in hills and forest, SI possibly opened fire for security reason.
SI from Ratlam said that they did not see the Police check post and took a U-turn when they realized that they had taken a wrong turn. Udaipur Police mistook this as a run and chased the car.
The injured constable has been hospitalized.
